The Huskies hosted Stonehill Sunday evening for their last home game of the season. Northeastern was able to go out on a high note with a classy 4-0 win.

Northeastern started with an all senior lineup. Honoring their last appearance at Carter, seniors Jordan Lian, Isaac Pastel, Jared Covell, Jake Covell, Ben Fargiano, Ben Jacobson, and Jackson Neal started on the pitch for Northeastern. Northeastern took control of the game early, controlling the ball through the experienced midfield and switching point of attack through the Northeastern back-line. To open scoring early, Ty Benjaafar would find space on the right side of the box, cutting in at the baseline. Benjaafar slotted a brilliant layoff across the top of the 6-yard-box, finding Jake Covell waiting at the back post. Covell sent the ball back where it came from, slotting Northeastern’s first goal into the opposite side netting. The Covell family was just getting rolling. Not to be outdone by his twin, Jared Covell would find himself with space at the top of the Stonehill box and rifle home a finish. With no intention of slowing down, Jared Covell would double his tally for the evening only a few plays later. Covell again struck a beauty of a shot from the top of the opposition’s box and gave Northeastern the 3-0 lead. Austin Birmingham would find a splitting through ball into the run of Jackson Neal, who slotted home the fourth goal of the day. Northeastern continued to generate chances throughout the first half. Into the second half, dark horse Lucas Espada took the pitch at left wing. On two occasions, Espada made brilliant one-touch through ball’s to center forward Neal, whose shots were being eaten up by the Stonehill keeper.

Northeastern ends the season 9-0-1, winning the Boston/Providence division and tying for 2nd place in points across the entire region. The Huskies now prepare for the regional tournament hosted in New Jersey in two weeks.
